Apparently there are plans for new bike lanes in Leeds, based on my experience of current provision in the City I don’t hold much hope for them being any good or actually encouraging cycling.
If a council truly wanted to increase cycling in a city, why don’t they close some of the roads to motorised traffic thereby forcing more cars onto the remaining roads deliberately increasing traffic jams. This makes cycling a safer and quicker mechanism for people to commute, hopefully then boosting the number of people commuting by bike.
Chances of this happening in our auto-centric individualistic society? Zero, Nil, Nada…
